A postcard of Le Village, in Cornwall’s East End. This area was built to house and support those who worked in the Cotton Mills. The restaurant to the right is now the Napoleon Delicatessen at 1 Montreal Road. The corner of Montreal Road and Marlborough Streets is also known as Brennan’s Corners after the Brennan family who lived there many years ago. The garage behind the restaurant has been demolished. The spire of Nativity Roman Catholic Church is visible in the distance. Just before the church spire can be seen the round letters of the Port Theatre sign. The theatre started as the Roxy Theatre and was designed by Jay Isadore English in 1941. Jay English was a prolific designer of theatres. Benjamin Swartz assisted in the design for the 1941 theatre which was built for Samuel Fingold.
