The Freeholder, Thursday, January 19, 1928, reported that a competition had been held to name the new hotel.
The first Prize was $15 with a $10 prize for the runner-up. 104 letters were received suggesting in the neighbourhood of 125 different names. Several people submitted the same winning name.
“The Willingdon” was the runner-up while “The Cornwallis” was the winning name.
It was decided to divide up the prize money and ask each of the successful contestants to be the guests of the directors and officers at the opening of the new hotel, at which time the prizes would be distributed.
