The Cornwallis Hotel was designed by William Cavin Beattie in 1927.
He also designed the north and south additions to Central Public School. In the 1950s and 60s, the shop on the left-hand corner of the Cornwallis was Bright’s Wines. Ken’s Drug Store also operated from the building. The grey building to the west was Warner’s garage. It was destroyed by fire around 1951.
