Hall’s Music was a popular music store in the 40s and 50s. Shirley’s Lunch (sign visible as “Shirley’s” lunch) eventually moved into the Hall’s building and the music store moved upstairs. In the 1960s Hall’s Music was relocated to Mountain Hall, the original Sunday School of Trinity Anglican Church, at the corner of Augustus Street and Trinity Avenue. Owner, Stewart Hall was also an organist and choirmaster at Trinity Church. A few years later, Mountain Hall burned to the ground. Notice the round Texaco sign on the right-hand side of Second Street, east of the Cornwallis Hotel. The sign at the top of the west side of the hotel advertises Hotel (fireproof) Cornwallis. The hotel, built with asbestos to make it fireproof (fire was a big concern in the early years) was eventually demolished.
