Taken in the 1970s from the same position as the previous card, the street has a more “modern” appearance. Hanging signs were banned and the awnings are gone. Pitt Street was converted to a pedestrian mall for a few years. The large fountain (right) was installed as a feature in the mall. As attractive as the mall was – it was not good for business – and Pitt Street was reverted to two-lane (one-way) for automobile traffic.
