Pitt between Third & Fourth streets. Cornwall, Ontario

Pitt between Third & Fourth streets.

A fascinating card showing J.G. Hunter Plumbing and stoves (at left). In the 1950s it was Kennedy’s with Soda Bar with stools along the north wall, and tables “further in” on the same wall. The south side of Kennedy’s sold model kits and model trains, along with a counter for chocolate bars etc. Next is a flour and feed shop set back a little and in the 1950s was Arnold Atchison, an upholsterer. I wish I could read the other signs! But we do know there was an ice cream shop (painted white), Crystal (something?), and then a fabric shop. Many will recognize the building with the tower as the Town Hall, Fire Hall, and Police Station. Today, the Cornwall Community Museum has a piece of ironwork from the balcony on the front of the Town Hall. When the balcony was removed a piece of the ironwork was bolted across the doorway.
