It’s hard to believe this is Pitt Street, below First. The foot of Pitt being close to the river and the busy traffic along the waterway this part of the street was developed first. This very early photo was taken mid-block between Water and First with tantalizing signs that cannot be read. The lower half of Pitt was well developed with 3-storey buildings making economical use by erecting tall buildings. On the left, Sweet Caporal Cigarettes is easily recognizable. The small white sign near the third floor reads I.O.O.F.
