The west side of Pitt Street before the fire.

Following the fire only the Post Office and Royal Bank (the first two buildings on the left) remained. Jardine’s Furniture store at the corner of Third was also saved — probably because it was built of brick. (Note: The Royal York Cafe next to the King George Hotel has not been built when this photo card was taken.)
