The Motor Vessel Farrandoc at Cornwall. Ontario

The Motor Vessel Farrandoc at Cornwall.

In 1926, MV Farrandoc was built by Federal Steel and Barge Company in London Connecticut. Christened the “Steel Electrician” she was built to lay underwater cable. Unlike many of her counterparts, which had “triple expansion” steam engines, MV Farrandoc had a diesel-electric engine. She had a length of 251.5 ft and a beam of 42.9 ft and a draft of 17.0 ft. MV Farrandoc was also used as a drill barge for maintenance. The high rigging was used for drilling into the bottom of the canal or riverbed.
