The Royal York Cafe was immediately north of the King George Hotel. (In the Pitt Street Section of this website there is a good view of the exterior of the cafe with a neon sign hanging over the street in front of the restaurant. The clothing and cars in that Pitt Street card suggest ca 1920-1930.) Notice the wooden booths on each side of the room. There are three support poles and beside each are coat racks. Framed artwork surrounds the room. By modern standards, the tables are small and serve ladies best. The booths would serve male customers. The beamed open ceiling has fans, drop pendant light fixtures, and chandeliers.
