Patriotic Card of Cornwall General Hospital

Patriotic Card of Cornwall General Hospital.

This Patriotic Card featuring the flag and maple leaf is a good example of a photo from an earlier card being recycled. Early cards did not have space for a message. The Post Office claimed one entire side of the card for the address and maintained, “the photo is the message.” People had different ideas and if there was a bit of blank space – they were bound to write a note.

For the curious… here is a transcription of the writing. Address is: Mrs. Aloin G. Clark, R.R. #2, Topeka, Kansas. “Dear Cousins, Mama has written you about our hospitals so I send you a view of one of them. We have another equally fine. We are very anxious for you to get well and strong Cousin Edith, and if we ever have the chance, would do all possible for you.” Lovingly Lois. The card is dated on the left, Cornwall, March 3, 1905.
