In the days before divided postcards, the photo was considered “the message.” Later a small white space was made (on the right of this card) to allow for a brief message. The fence is gone, and the building looks very fine. By 1947 the Hotel Dieu Hospital had 125 beds and all were filled The Cornwall General Hospital with 86 beds was also full. The two hospitals served the residents of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry counties and, as the population continued to grow, more beds would be required.
