Notice the women standing by the looms. Each weaver would be responsible for running several looms. Windows were important before electric lights. This mill has large windows along the walls and the roof bumps up over the center aisle so that more windows could be installed to provide daylight. The windows opened providing a “ridge ventilation system.” The windows were multi-paned and opened on a pivot about 3/4 way from the top. They were regulated by long chains that extended to the floor level. Also visible are electrical conduits that carried power to the weaving drive units and (what looks like) a fire sprinkler system coming down from overhead.
