This is a colourized version of the previous card. Notice the water fountain for horses, at left, beneath the tree. There were several such fountains in the downtown area including the corner of Fourth & Pitt. Another postcard shows a similar fountain on Second Street in front of the old post office. In March 1834 Cornwall was incorporated as a town and was, for the first time, separate from the township government and became a separate riding for the provincial legislature elections. The canon was a remnant from the War of 1812. There were two of them, and for several years, they were installed in Central Park.
