Royal Hotel, Montreal Road, Cornwall

Royal Hotel, Montreal Road, Cornwall.

Seen here is the modernized Royal Hotel following the 1956 fire. This card boasts (in both official languages) “Four generations of French-Canadian tradition.” This photo was taken after Feb. 15, 1965, when the Canadian Flag (seen on the left of the building) was accepted as Canada’s flag. Built in 1934 by Fred Lefebvre at the height of the great depression the Royal Hotel had 60 rooms with showers and baths, a dining lounge available for parties, banquets, and receptions. Today the entire building is home to Masse’s Cost+ furniture store. —Postcard Ektachrome Gaby Photography.
