Pitt Street at Second, looking north. Cornwall, Ontario

Pitt Street at Second, looking north.

An early photo, taken before 1933 and the Great Fire of Pitt and Second Streets. If only we could read the wind-curled banner across the intersection! Pedestrian sidewalks were installed long before roads were paved. On the right is the Stirling Bank which later became Dover’s Men’s Wear, owned by businessman, Archie Dover. On the left was the Bank of Commerce which moved into the Seaway Building. The bank was replaced by Fullerton’s Drug Store which still stands today.
